an introduction

I have been a textile designer for more than 30 years. The textile industry has changed dramatically during my career and it is through hard work, creativity, and courage that I continue to adapt, learn new skills and look for new ways of doing the work that I love. Today, I work out of my home studio on the beautiful coast of Rhode Island. For the past 12 years I have produced work as a freelance textile designer for a range of companies including  Regal Fabrics , Valdese Weavers, Leslie Jee Textiles, Morgan Fabrics, and Design Pool. More recently, I have also sold my hand created artworks to textile mills and convertors, including, Victor, True Textiles, Wearbest, ZWovens, Regal Fabrics, and others.

I began my design career at Chromatex & later Craftex Mills, where I designed hospitality and contract jobber fabrics. Later, I was Design Director of the Stevens Linen division at Guilford of Maine and then Director of Design for the decorative jobber division at Quaker Fabrics. My expertise includes developing original artwork, dobby & jacquard design, embroidery, velvet and prints.

I received an MFA  from Cranbrook Academy of  Art  in 1993 and it was there that I developed the process of unraveling and reweaving textile fragments and pairing my weavings with vintage photographs. While a student at Cranbrook, I was commissioned to research and hand weave reproductions of Loja Saarinen’s curtains for the Saarinen House restoration project. I continue to create and exhibit my artwork nationally. In 2015 I was a visiting artist/teacher at TNNUA in Taiwan and had a solo exhibition of my work there.

In addition to my design and art work, I have also taught textile design courses at Jefferson University (formally known as Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science), Rhode Island School of Design & University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

I love to collaborate with designers and mills on custom freelance projects. Please contact me if you have a project or want to meet to discuss a collaboration.
